Mafātīḥ al-jinān (مفاتیح الجنان, “keys to the heavens”) by Shaykh 'Abbas al-Qummi is the most popular book of supplication in the Shi'a world. It contains du'as, supplications, ziyarahs, practices special to certain days, months, and occasions, religious practices and manners, and some anecdotes narrated from the Prophet (s), Imams, and Islamic scholars. Before Mafatih, some other du'a books were used by Shi'ites. The author of Mafatih has copied the majority of his book from those books including Iqbal by Sayyid b. Tawus, Misbah by Kaf'ami, and Zad al-ma'ad by 'Allama Majlisi. Mafatih was very well received soon after it was published. Nowadays, it can be found in almost all houses, mosques, and holy places belonging to Shi'ites and it is the most important reference on recommended practices and religious occasions. The most famous translation of Mafatih into Farsi is by Mahdi Ilahi Qumshe'i. The author has added his al-Baqiyat al-Salihat to Mafatih which has been published in the margin of various editions. Also two books of Mafatih nuwin and Mafatih al-hayat have been published. The former aims to improve the authenticity of Mafatih and the latter to complete it.
